Do Your Elevators Meet Florida’s Door Lock Monitoring Requirements? 

Florida’s new retroactive requirements for elevators are due by December 31, 2023 — but don’t wait for the deadline to meet compliance. 
According to the State of Florida Bureau of Elevator Safety, all Florida-based elevators will require door lock monitoring, a system that monitors and prevents automatic operation of the elevators in the presence of faulty door contact circuits.
  
The new ASME Elevator Safety Code A17.3-2015 includes section 3.10 and 3.10.12, which indicate that all conveyances licensed by the State of Florida Bureau of Elevator Safety, including those located within the five contracted jurisdictions, must comply with the code.
  
Compliance with this code will require a review of your elevator system by a licensed elevator contractor. If your elevator was installed prior to 2015 your system will most likely require the hardware and wiring upgrade which includes the door lock monitor box and software. The costs range from $10,000 to $25,000 per box depending on when we order the parts and how many units are involved. Time is of the essence, the sooner we order and install the parts the quicker it will be expedited and the cheaper the job will be.
